Problem: How are Global Activity Codes handled when a project is exported and imported into a different Project Management database?
Problem: How are Project Activity Codes handled when a project is exported and imported into a different Project Management database?
Problem: Are all Global activity codes exported in an XER?
Problem: Activity Code values are missing when I import a project.
Problem: Activity Codes are missing when I import a project.
Fix: When a project is exported as an XER file, the only Global Activity Code data that is exported is the data that is assigned to activities in the project being exported.  Thus, only codes that have values assigned are exported, and only values that are assigned for those codes are exported.

To illustrate this, please do the following:

  1. Create two global Activity Codes called “Assigned” and “NotAssigned.”

  2. For the code “Assigned,” add two values called “ValueAssigned” and “ValueNotAssigned.”

  3. Create a project with one activity.

  4. Create one activity in this project.

  5. Assign the value “ValueAssigned” to the Code “Assigned.”  Do not make an assignment for the Code “NotAssigned.”

  6. Export the project as an XER file and import it into a different database.

  7. Note that the only global Activity Code that was imported is “Assigned.”  “NotAssigned” was not imported because it was not being used in the project that was imported.

  8. Note that, although the Code “Assigned” was imported, the only code value that was imported was “ValueAssigned.”  This is because the value “ValueNotAssigned” was not being used in the project that was imported.
Fix: When a project is exported as an XER file, all Project Activity Code data is exported, regardless of whether any values are assigned to activities in the project being exported.
